Laminate Flooring Installation in Lancing

The single most important step in any laminate installation is making sure the subfloor is flat, dry, and clean. We check levels across the floor using a straight edge and apply self-levelling compound to concrete subfloors where dips or high spots exist. For timber subfloors, we screw down loose boards and check for bounce. Skipping this step is the main reason laminate floors develop gaps, bounce, or creak.

Every laminate floor needs underlay. It provides cushioning, sound dampening, and moisture protection. We use standard foam underlay for general rooms, and foil-backed or DPM (damp-proof membrane) underlay on concrete subfloors where rising moisture is a concern. For underfloor heating, we use thin, high-density underlay that conducts heat efficiently.

We lay laminate planks using click-fit systems, working from the longest, most visible wall and maintaining a 10mm expansion gap around the perimeter. Cutting around door frames, radiator pipes, and room thresholds cleanly is what separates a professional job from a DIY one. We undercut door architraves so planks slide underneath rather than butting up with an ugly gap, and fit pipe rosettes around heating pipes for a tidy finish.

Scotia or beading around the room covers the expansion gap without looking clumsy. Threshold strips at doorways provide a clean transition between rooms, especially where the flooring changes type or level. We colour-match trims to the laminate where possible.

If you have existing carpet, vinyl, or laminate that needs taking up first, we handle the full removal, including pulling up old underlay, scraping adhesive residue from concrete subfloors, and removing gripper rods.
