Block Paving in Lancing

A block-paved driveway needs proper groundwork to perform under vehicle weight. We excavate to a minimum depth of 200mm, lay and compact a Type 1 MOT sub-base in layers, and set permanent edge restraints before laying the blocks. Blocks are laid on a sharp sand bedding layer, cut precisely around manholes and edges, then compacted with a plate vibrator. Kiln-dried sand is swept into the joints to lock everything together, giving a surface that flexes without cracking and can be individually repaired if a block is ever damaged.

Block paving works well for patios too, particularly where you want a uniform, contemporary look. We lay patio blocks with proper drainage falls away from the house and use contrasting border blocks to define edges and create design interest.

Garden paths, side-access paths, and front paths all benefit from block paving. We lay them on a compacted sub-base with edge restraints, creating a hard-wearing surface that handles foot traffic, wheelie bins, and garden equipment without settling or shifting.

Block paving comes in a wide range of colours and can be laid in several patterns including herringbone (the strongest for driveways), stretcher bond, and basket weave. We advise on which pattern works best for your project and carry samples so you can see colours before committing.

If existing block paving has sunk, shifted, or developed weeds, we can lift the affected area, rebuild the sub-base, and re-lay the blocks. Individual damaged blocks can be replaced without disturbing the rest of the surface.
