Real Jobs, Before and After

Every job below was carried out by us across Lancing, Worthing, Shoreham and the wider Sussex coast. Drag the slider on any image to see the before and after. The captions describe what the work actually involved, because the finish is only half the story — most of what decides whether a repair lasts happens before the visible part goes on.

A fair few of these started as something smaller. A slipped tile turns out to sit above perished felt; blown plaster turns out to be a gutter problem two floors up. Where that happens we tell you what we have found and what it changes before carrying on, rather than quietly covering it over.

Driveway & Garden Paving

Old surface lifted and taken away, a proper sub-base laid and compacted, then block paving set with brick edging to hold the edges. Turf laid over fresh topsoil rather than over the spoil.

Plastering & Decorating

Blown plaster hacked back to sound brick, re-skimmed, then left to dry fully before priming and painting. Skimming over damp or hollow plaster is what causes it to fail again.

Rebuilt brick steps with fresh pointing

BeforeAfter

Brick Step Rebuild

Loose bricks taken out, the steps rebuilt to level and repointed. On external steps the mortar mix matters — too hard and it pushes water into the brick face instead of letting it out.

BeforeAfter

Roof Cleaning & Repair

Moss and debris cleared, slipped and cracked tiles replaced, and the roof checked over while access was in place. Moss holds water against the tile and speeds up frost damage.

BeforeAfter

Chimney Repointing

Perished mortar raked out and the stack repointed, with flashings checked and made good. Disused stacks get forgotten and are a common source of leaks that show up nowhere near the chimney.

Full Roof Renovation

Complete strip and re-roof: old covering removed, deteriorated battens and felt replaced, then re-tiled with new ridge and verge work. Once the felt has gone, patching tiles only buys time.

Freshly rendered and painted exterior wall

BeforeAfter

Exterior Rendering & Painting

Cracked and hollow render cut back to sound material, made good, then coated. Cutting back properly is the slow part and the part that decides whether it lasts.

Roof Repair

Localised repair to displaced and damaged tiles, with the surrounding area checked for further movement before signing off.

Garden Wall Rebuild

Wall taken down to a sound course and rebuilt, with new coping to shed water off the top. Most garden wall failures start at an unprotected top course.

Finished gravel pathway with retained planting bed

BeforeAfter

Front Garden Gravel Pathway

Ground dug out, edged and laid with membrane and gravel, giving a low-maintenance front garden that drains rather than pooling.

Chimney Restoration

Stack rebuilt and repointed, with new flashings and a weathered finish at the top to keep water out of the brickwork below.

Repointed roof ridge tiles with fresh mortar bedding

Ridge Tile Repointing

Ridge tiles lifted, re-bedded and repointed. Ridges are usually the first thing to fail on an older roof and the most exposed part of it to wind.
